So what is this
Urban Challenge thing, anyway? In a nutshell, it's a race around the chosen city's urban landscape, finding one's destinations (checkpoints) using a series of clues the race organizers have concocted. There are elements of Jeopardy!, short- and long-distance running, and city savvy.
You might be thinking to yourself, sure, Robin and Karin are both former Jeopardy! contestants (as Karin likes to say, "I came in among the top 3!"), and both are usually hyper-fit, but neither are runners of any sort, and Karin's just coming off nearly a year of muscle deconditioning illness! Nevertheless, this caught our imagination, and, living up to our motto, "If it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing", we went for it.
The Boston Urban Challenge was held on Saturday, 28 June 2003, and Team Human Clones arrived for registration at 7:30 a.m.
There, we completed our registration by handing in our waiver of all rights to a sane and safe existence for the next several hours. We then received a loaner digital camera, with which Urban Challengers must record their Checkpoint visits, to prove successful completion of the course.
