ktravers > This is an alarmingly rickety structure, with a dangerous tilt, but the view can’t be beat, so we risk it.
ktravers > Unfortunately, when we surface, the storm has whipped up the surface into a surging mess. Some trouble getting the boat engines started activates Vlad’s propensity to seasickness, what with the abundant breakfast. When we reach the shore, Vlad is wiped out, and begs off the afternoon dive. However, Karin opts in.

Vlad declines a lunch, preferring to let his stomach settle while lounging in the bungalow reading. Karin grabs a soup at the bar, and patiently instructs a visiting bananaquit to model.
ktravers > Our last evening at the BWI, with the sunset reflected in the clouds.

We are picked up on Sunday morning by Juicy, a local taxi driver, at the ungodly hour of 5:00am to be driven to the airport for our 8:30am flight. We mean to sleep for the ride, but Juicy is a delightfully garrulous fellow, and we engage him in conversation for the entire drive.

Along the way, we pass throngs of folks in the streets of Roxborough, apparently those who never got home after the previous night’s carnival-associated festivities. We also pass a party still going strong, soca booming out onto the deck of a house, people dancing. Man, these folks can PARTY!

We manage to check in at the airport with plenty of time to spare, so we take a short stroll down to Store Bay Beach before boarding. Sadly, none of the kitchens are open, so we sit and watch the sea for a bit before heading back into the airport. There, we pick up a tasty breakfast of bake and flying fish. Mmmm!

And then, we’re off home.
ktravers > Once back onshore, with the weather cleared up, we decide to take the Starwood trail to the next bay.
ktravers > The trek is inland, so the views are not those of the sea, but rather of the dense forest.
ktravers > We arrived back at home base at 2:20pm- quite the long haul! We head into Speyside, via the usual beatiful road shown here.

We're in search of rotis for a late lunch. Sadly, the roti shop (Marlene’s, right on the village’s playing field), only dishes them out at around noon, so we are out of luck. Wandering back, we pass the Suncrest Restaurant and Bar- the ladies sitting in front are happy to indulge us in our pleading for whatever food they might have in their kitchen for such a late lunch. They bring us a little Creole chicken (a leg they had leftover), and several nice shark steaks, as well as an array of side dishes and 2 Caribs. The feast easily rivals Jemma’s- for less than ½ the price! Mmmm.

On to Thursday 19 February: SCUBA, and the Starwood trail
ktravers > We have sadly missed our free rum punch at the manager’s party held that evening until 7:00pm, but we’re happy enough to get a table in the hotel-associated restaurant, Bonkers, and buy ourselves a round. Bonkers is delightful! Though some descriptions peg the place as packed, we find the room only lightly populated, with people seemingly enjoying being there as much as we. It’s a delightful meal, and a fun spot.

After dinner, we visit Bonkers the macaw, and Toco the toucan. We cannot get enough of Bonkers sidling up to us, quietly and hopefully squawking, “Hello!”, and waving his claw at us- it is endlessly amusing.
